What GiftHint collects, why it collects it, and what happens when you browse, click, or subscribe.

Scope

What this page covers

This policy covers both the GiftHint website and the GiftHint iOS app. They serve different purposes but share one privacy commitment: collect only what is needed, explain it plainly, and never sell personal information.

The website is a public editorial site. No accounts, no shopper profiles. The iOS app is a personal relationship-memory tool that stores your data on your device and syncs it privately through iCloud.

If either surface changes in a way that matters here, this page will change with it.

Website

What the website collects

  1. Email addresses

If you subscribe, I store your email, where you signed up, and whether you confirmed through the double opt-in step.

  2. Analytics and request data

The site tracks pageviews and basic events. The hosting stack sees ordinary request data like IP addresses and headers so pages can load and stay up.

  3. Affiliate click logs

When you click a retailer link, I log where it went, the page you were on, and a hashed IP so I can measure affiliate performance and spot abuse.

I collect what I need to run the site and the app. That's it.

iOS app

What the app collects

  1. Recipients and occasions

Names, relationships, birthdays, anniversaries, interests, notes, and gift ideas you save. All of this stays on your device and in your private iCloud account.

  2. Contacts access

If you choose to import from your address book, the app reads only the contacts you select. Contact data is used locally to pre-fill recipient details and is never sent to GiftHint servers.

  3. iCloud sync

Your app data syncs across your devices through Apple's CloudKit. This sync is between your devices and your iCloud account. GiftHint does not operate the servers that hold this data; Apple does, under their own privacy policy.

The app does not track you across other apps or websites. Notification permissions are requested only when you set up a reminder, and only for local notifications on your device. Subscriptions are handled entirely through Apple's App Store billing; GiftHint does not see or store your payment details.

Use

How the data is used

On the website: confirmation emails, measuring whether guides are working, tracking which affiliate links convert, preventing abuse, keeping the admin tools running.

In the app: storing the recipients, dates, ideas, and reminders you create, and syncing them across your devices through iCloud.

I don't sell personal information. The website has no user accounts or shopper profiles to sell. The app stores your data on your device and in your iCloud account, not on GiftHint servers.

Sharing

Who sees it

I use service providers for hosting, analytics, and email. They process the minimum to do their job.

When you click through an affiliate link, you leave this site. The retailer and its affiliate network handle the visit from there under their own policies.

App data stays between your device and your iCloud account. GiftHint does not receive, access, or share the personal information you store in the app.

Choices

Your options

You can use the website without subscribing to anything. If you want off the email list, write [email protected] and I'll remove you.

In the app, you control your data directly. Delete a recipient, idea, or reminder and it is removed from your device and iCloud. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. To manage iCloud storage, use your device's iCloud settings.

Once you click a retailer link, you're on their site and their privacy policy applies.
